Compliance and Risk Officer

  Central Malta  |  €70,000 - €75,000 Annually 

Our client within the Insurance Industry is looking for a Compliance and Risk Officer to join their team. The candidate needs to be PQ'd or in the process of being PQ'd by the MFSA 

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain high standards for the risk and compliance function.
  • Deliver training sessions for staff and directors as needed.
  • Attend five board meetings and ten committee meetings annually.
  • Provide compliance officer updates to the Board.
  • Present risk management updates to the Board.
  • Review board materials, including regulatory updates, risk registers, ORSA reports, outsourcing agreements, IPT updates, licensed business and passports, and other documents requiring board approval.
  • Verify the accuracy of meeting minutes, ensuring all action items and approvals meet MFSA requirements.
  • Engage in discussions with internal and external auditors and address their queries.
  • Assess and update the governance manual to align with internal control standards.
  • Participate in MFSA meetings and stay updated on MFSA communications.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory deadlines, including reporting, IPT, registry filings, VAT, and corporate tax obligations.
  • Provide support for adherence to General Good Provisions and other requirements in EU jurisdictions where the business operates.
  • Conduct quarterly compliance checks covering insurance, finance, regulatory, and corporate secretarial matters.
  • Perform annual evaluations of board composition, fitness and propriety assessments, and key function roles.
  • Carry out thematic or ad hoc checks as directed by the Board.

  • Solid expeirence in a similar role within the Insurance industry
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to meet deadlines

Education and Experience

  • PQ'd or eligible to be PQ'd by the MFSA
