Financial Controller

  Central Malta  |  €50,000 - €60,000 Annually 

Our client is seeking to recruit a Financial Controller. The chosen candidate will be responsible for day-to-day financial operations, including creating financial statements, providing financial reporting and analysis, and managing accounting operations.

Duties include:

  • Carrying out the duties as the Group’s accountant;
  • Presenting, as directed, timely Group/business unit financial statements/management accounts;
  • Managing the employees within the department ensuring work is being carried out effectively and efficiently;
  • Ensuring the timely preparation of financial information that may be required lawfully by external bodies, like Government Departments and Banks and present to superior;
  • Carrying out financial evaluations and investment appraisals as required and advise superior of any shortcomings in writing;
  • Ensuring that the audit process of the yearly accounts of all companies is done for timely presentation of audited financial statements to the board of directors;
  • Ensuring that monies due to the Group are invoiced and collected in a timely manner;
  • Liaising with the business unit managers in the preparation of budgets for each of the units and submit to superior for approval
  • monitor actual performance against forecasts and report to superior on variances, together with corrective action being taken/recommended; revise forecasts as necessary and seek superior’s approval accordingly;
  • Liaising, as directed on behalf of the Group, with the Group’s bankers to ensure that the Group has the necessary financing to carry out its activities; ensure that all terms and conditions set by bankers are adhered to;
  • Ensuring that all finance, accounting and administration activities and decisions are carried out within the approved strategy, policy and budget parameters;
  • Conducting regular internal audits and financial investigation and raise any concerns to superior;
  • Ensuring that all statutory requirements in the Group’s operations, like Insurance and returns to Government Departments are met;
  • Participate in the formulation of policies, systems, and procedures to facilitate the achievement of the Department’s objectives;
  • Implementing and guiding managers on the approved policies, systems and procedures together with monitoring their effectiveness;
  • Making sure personnel particulars are kept and that all the statutory documentation regarding remuneration, deductions regarding income tax and Social Security contributions in respect of all employees is duly filled in and dispatched in the prescribed time to the appropriate Government Departments;
  • Ensuring that the tax computations are undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements;
  • Compiling, maintaining and monitoring the fixed asset inventory for all companies within the Group; account for any variance to the Department’s fixed asset inventory;
  • Providing for the training of subordinates to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge and skill to carry out their duties with sustained maximum efficiency; this involves job holder's direct training of subordinates;
  • Performing any other administrative duties as directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in finance, accounting, or related field
  • Proven experience in this role. Experience within the hospitality sector will be considered an asset
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial information
  • Ability to create and analyse financial statements
  • Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Excellent leadership skills
