Data Protection Officer

  Central Malta  |  €60,000 - €65,000 Annually 

Our client is seeking to recruit a Data Protection Officer to join the team. 

Duties include: 

  • Act as the primary advisor on privacy-related matters to top management and all departments.
  • Lead GDPR compliance efforts by conducting initial audits for new systems and projects, identifying compliance gaps, and overseeing implementation of corrective measures
  • Ensure ongoing compliance through regular GDPR audits and monitoring.
  • Maintaining and updating GDPR-related policies, protocols, procedures, and ensured employee adherence across the organization.
  • Managing and maintaining data processing records, data maps, and conducted Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
  • Serve as the key liaison with the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC) and responded to data subject requests as required.
  • Foster a culture of privacy compliance in alignment with the group's strategy.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of data breaches, including internal and external reporting in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with DPOs across the group to ensure strategic alignment and consistent privacy practices.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on privacy matters to the' Head of Privacy and the boards of directors.
  • Delivered GDPR training and awareness programs to staff.
  • Reviewed contracts for data protection implications, negotiated privacy terms with partners, and conducted vendor risk assessments.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in working as a Data Protection Officer is required for this role
  • Experience within retail or manufacturing will be considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of GDPR, local data protection regulations, and relevant industry standards
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and confidentially.

Education and Experience

  • Legal, compliance, or data privacy certification (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPM, IAPP certifications) is highly desirable
