Head of Maintenance

  Central Malta  |  €40,000 - €45,000 Annually 

Our client is looking to employ a Head of Maintenance to support with the day to day running of the operation. Reporting to the Hotel General Manager you will:

  • Monitor fridge and freezer temperatures.
  • Conduct monthly equipment stocktaking.
  • Obtain quotes for equipment replacements and repairs.
  • Provide detailed handovers for maintenance tasks.
  • Schedule work based on forecasted occupancy and F&B functions.
  • Coordinate with Housekeeping and Front Office for scheduled maintenance.
  • Supervise daily Maintenance Department activities.
  • Perform daily and random inspections of maintenance work.
  • Report needs to the Senior Operations Manager.
  • Review in-house activities daily.
  • Manage diesel fuel, gas, and other essential supplies.
  • Ensure maintenance tasks are prioritized and performed efficiently.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations for all maintenance work.
  • Regularly service and audit plant, machinery, and lifts per Government regulations.
  • Maintain pool water quality and follow Legionella procedures.
  • Keep workshop and storerooms clean and organized.
  • Control departmental costs, labor, and supply wastage.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance activities.
  • Update the Senior Operations Manager on department activities.

    Human Resources Management
  • Prepare weekly rosters.
  • Aim to reduce sick leave and turnover.
  • Inform employees of work-related accidents.
  • Maximize employee productivity and satisfaction through supervision and motivation.
  • Maintain service standards, provide feedback, and encourage teamwork.
  • Identify and address training needs.
  • Conduct training as requested by the Senior Operations Manager.
  • Supervise employees effectively and honestly.
  • Foster open communication within the department and with other departments.
  • Keep absent employees informed to ensure information flow and productivity.
  • Motivate and challenge employees.

    Health and Safety
  • Report and reduce potential hazards immediately.
  • Train employees on electrical safety and handling harmful chemicals.
  • Be proficient with the hotel’s fire and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure employees work safely.
  • Promote health and safety awareness.
  • Identify and report possible hazards to the Senior Operations Manager.
  • Encourage high standards of personal hygiene, dress, and conduct.

    Other Responsibilities
  • Attend meetings and training as requested by management.
  • Address guest requests courteously and efficiently.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule for uninterrupted service.
  • Keep work areas, materials, and company property clean and in good condition.
  • Continuously improve department efficiency and job knowledge.
  • Stay updated on hotel fire and emergency procedures, health and safety policies, and standards of operation.

Requirements

  • Must have good leadership capabilities.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices.
  • Familiarity with fire and emergency procedures.

Education and Experience

  • Must have the Wiremen License A & License B.
  • Relevant educational qualification.
  • Previous experience in managing teams.
